ATIS Feed

The control tower at Bankstown Airport continually broadcasts information about operational and weather conditions at the airport. This is called the Aerodrome Terminal Information Service - ATIS.

We also have a feed of the current ATIS at Bankstown Airport, which you can connect to below.

About the live feed

You are listening to two tower frequencies. 123.6MHz is used for circuit training - conducted to the south of the airport. The other frequency (132.8 MHz) is the tower frequency for arrivals and departures.  Aircraft will call the tower inbound at two locations - 2RN radio mast or Prospect Reservoir. From these points, the aircraft are instructed to fly to join the circuit around the airport. You will hear many different types of departures - some aircraft heading out to the "training area" to the west of the airport, others on a cross-country flight and others departing into controlled airspace.

Listen for the Air Traffic Controllers dealing with trainee pilots - Bankstown plays a vital role as one of the major training aerodromes in the region.

While you are listening to the main tower frequency there is an alternate tower frequency being used, being 123.6 MHz.  This frequency is used to control the circuit training being conducted about the training runway - one of three parallel runways at Bankstown.  When the traffic levels are low the controllers will often "patch" the two frequencies together - doubling the challenge.

Many of the places you will hear referred to on the radio transmissions are shown on the map below.

  1. Bankstown Airport.
  2. 2RN radio mast inbound point.
  3. Prospect Reservoir inbound point.
  4. Sometimes you will hear aircraft reporting "3 miles north-east" - this is where they'll be.
  5. Homebush Bay - location of the Sydney 2000 Olympics.
